This image is a documentary photograph identifying the poverty and deprivation within areas of society. The photographer uses a shallow depth of focus to put emphasis on the young boy, who is looking directly at the camera. Although the background is out of focus, it is obvious the boy is separated from the others in the image, giving the sense of isolation and being alone. Many of the boys have their back turned to the camera, suggesting that the boy is being ignored However, some of the boys are looking at the photographer taking the photo which suggests that they live in a country that is low economical status because they are curious as to what the photographer is doing. The photograph is taken from the level of the boy which is low, although is angled to look directly at them which shows the audience how the boy may be feeling. Being a colour image we are able to see that the boy is very dirty, something that may not have been as obvious if the photograph was taken in black and white, something that is typical of documentary photographs.
